The Ocean Race, WindWhisper Racing Team, Won VO65 Sprint Cup

This VO65 and I go back a long way. I led the five-month refit of this boat in its previous life as Team AkzoNobel, so to race it to victory in The Ocean Race VO65 Sprint Cup felt like a full circle moment.

WindWhisper Racing Team won all three legs of the Sprint, crossing the finish line into Genova ahead of the fleet by more than 18 hours. We also finished ahead of the IMOCAs - a double win that nobody was expecting.

It was my fourth participation in The Volvo Ocean Race and Ocean Race. Each time I come back to this race it means something different. This time, winning on a boat I'd helped rebuild from the ground up made it something I'll never forget.

"We did leg one well, we did leg six well, and now to win leg seven by more than a hundred miles is pretty cool."
