I arrived in Los Angeles in November 2019 to prepare Maiden for her world tour. What followed was four years of sailing this legendary boat to ports across the globe, managing crew, maintaining the vessel and delivering the Maiden Factor Foundation's message that every girl deserves an education.
Maiden was the first boat to ever race around the world with an all-female crew. Skippered by Tracy Edwards in 1989, she changed what people believed women were capable of. Thirty years later, the skepticism hadn't entirely disappeared. That's exactly why the mission still matters.
The crew, the mile-builders, the guests and the stories we heard from people around the world who were inspired by Maiden's story were all living proof that through hard work, tenacity and belief, anything is possible.
